In the distant future. a new immortal and genderless life form called Gems populate the Earth. The 28 Gems must fight against the Moon Dwellers, who attack them regularly to abduct them and to turn them into decorations. Each Gem is assigned a role, such as a fighter or a medic.

Being only 300 years old, Phosphophyllite is the youngest of the Gems and has no assignment yet. They want to help to fight the Moon Dwellers, but is too weak and brittle for battle. One day the master of Gems, Kongou (Adamantine), assigns them the task of creating a natural history encyclopedia. (src: myanimelist)

~ABOUT THE ZINE
Long Live the Lustrous ~a Houseki no Kuni Fanzine~ was created to commemorate the ending of the animation of Houseki no Kuni. Our theme will be concept of "Luster," so hopefully we can fill our pages with beautiful, shiny art.
Long Live the Lustrous will hopefully be a for-profit zine, consisting of 28 pages not including the covers. We will be seeking a total of 52 artists for the main zine, and possibly another five to contribute extra merchandise if they are willing to.

~ABOUT THE ORGANIZERS
Meet moderators Mizu ( @shiinsengumii), Hannah ( @lowfatmikleo) and Thomas (no social media). Mizu was the one who coined the idea while reading the first volume of Houseki no Kuni, and recruited fellow friend and fan Hannah. Thomas is Mizu's coworker, he is also an artist and proved to be a fair judge. Both Hannah and Mizu agreed an odd number of judges would prove more efficient.
Moderator Hannah has a certified license in Microsoft Excel so she's in charge of organizing spreadsheets with applicant names, contact information and portfolios.
Moderator Mizu is the customer relations representative, whoever's replying back to you is likely Mizu.
While this is our first experience organizing a zine, please rest assured that all of us have done our fair share of research and intend to conduct business in a fair, professional manner.

~QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE
Q: How do you sign up for the waitlist?
A: It will be through google forms, just like the applications. Be warned, it will be first come, first serve basis so please sign up quick!

Q: What kind of art are you looking for?
A: Because the concept is "lustrous," we would very much appreciate something shiny! We imagine that it would be difficult to portray "lustrous" with traditional materials, but we encourage you to try!
We've stated in the past that the zine will be limited to anime-moments only but we've changed that decision. Feel free to draw whatever you want!

Q: Are ships allowed? Are the teams considered ships?
A: Unfortunately we must refuse. The two-person teams are not considered ships so feel free to include them in your piece.

Q: Are participants allowed to post their contributions online?
A: Not until the zines have been printed and shipped. They are allowed to post WIPs and cropped bits, however.

Q: Are foreign artists allowed to apply?
A: Absolutely! Please note that we are USA and USD-based so there will be a conversion from USD to the currency in your country.

Q: How will the participants be compensated?
A: This is a for-profit zine! Each participant will receive a copy of the zine + accompanying merchandise along with their share of proceeds.

Q: May the participants order extra copies? Do they get discounts if they do?
A: Of course! We only ask that if they intend to sell those extra copies at their own stores, they credit the organizers and other contributors properly.

Q: Do you intend on reopening sales after the preorder period / zines are shipped?
A: Eventually we will, depending on how much traffic our project gets. It's possible we may reopen orders even as a month after the end of the project.
